NEWS: La Boheme Has Been Rescheduled
NEW SCREENING DATE FOR LA BOHEME.
We are happy to announce that La Boheme has been rescheduled for a new date:
Sunday, April 25 (at 12:30). We sincerely hope that you can make this date. But why 2010? Why so late? Well, our Fall theater schedule is tightly booked for special events. Then, starting November 1st, screenings of La Boheme are "blacked out"(for PBS broadcast) by the distributor until the Spring. So, April was the best time. Remember, though, our other scheduled operas are coming fast and furious. Das Rheingold is October 18th.
SUNDAY'S PROBLEM.
We’d like to thank you for your patience and understanding regarding the cancellation. As you may know, we screen our operas digitally from a file that is downloaded over the internet from Emerging Pictures onto a computer server in our projection booth. We prescreen each opera ahead of time to make sure that it is downloaded properly. We did so with La Boheme on Thursday and everything played fine all the way through. (Emerging Pictures is our digital distributor, by the way. We’ve been successfully working with them for about a year now and value their partnership.)
The problem on Sunday was caused by a maintenance program simultaneously running in the computer’s background. We had no control over this (and only Emerging could see it). This was discovered by Emerging at about 2:00. Once this was dealt with everything ran fine. Which, unfortunately, was too late to save the screening.
REFUNDS AND FREE PASSES.
Each individual ticket holder is entitled to a refund plus a free movie pass and a voucher for a free popcorn and drink. Each subscription holder is entitled to 2 free movie passes and 1 voucher for a free popcorn and drink. If you didn’t get these yesterday, you can do so at the box office at any time that we are open. There is no time limit. Just make sure that you have your ticket stub. (If you’ve misplaced your stub, please call the office at 215-348-1878 x10, between 9:00 and 5:00.)
WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE BOX OFFICE FOR MY REFUND?
If it’s more convenient, you can mail your ticket stubs to our office and we’ve send you your free passes and/or refund. Make sure you include your return address! (Mail to: Amber Theater, PO Box 676, Ambler, PA 19002)
THE FUTURE.
We are taking steps to increase our prescreening procedures to make sure that this problem never happens again. Digital projection is increasingly the future for the Ambler Theater. Especially for specialized programming like opera and theater and small art films. And classic films like the Hitchcock in HD that we showed. This is the first major glitch that we’ve had. There was no excuse for the problem, but we’re trying to look at it as growing pains. Trying.
Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions or comments, please contact us at 215-348-1878 x10 or at comments@amblertheater.org.
With sincere regrets,
John Toner
