Funny Face

19571 hr 43 min

We kick off our year-long Fashion in Film series with the musical that cemented Audrey Hepburn’s working relationship with iconic French couturier Hubert de Givenchy. Set in the rarefied world of high fashion, FUNNY FACE is an irresistible combination of music, style, and star talents. Fred Astaire plays fashion photographer Dick Avery with a plan to turn Hepburn’s scruffy Greenwich Village intellectual into a supermodel. Featuring classic songs by George Gershwin.

About the Fashion: Most costumes for FUNNY FACE were designed by the legendary Edith Head, but the film’s crowning glory is a collection of custom-designed gowns by Givenchy. The first of many Hepburn/Givenchy collaborations. Hepburn was one of the first stars to reject the studio designer assigned to her and insist that Givenchy create all her on-screen looks going forward. The dresses in this film inspired countless contemporary looks, including the red strapless gown featured on the film’s poster, and Hepburn’s black cigarette pants, flats, and polo neck.
